WIAW: Spontaneous trip to NYC!

Happy WIAW everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying a week of tasty eats. I decided to photograph my rest day on Sunday which turned into an impromptu trip to my old college in the Bronx, Manhattan College, filled with delicious eats at a Jewish Deli that my family and I always loved to go to when I was in college. (More to that in a minute)

Whenever it is a rest day (or sometimes active rest day with yoga) I don’t eat less because I am not working out. Your body needs food to help with recovery, so restricting because you aren’t exercising is not the way to go. My rest days are often on Sundays so my day of food typically looks different than during the week because I am usually at my parent’s house (aka yummy Sunday dinner), but other than that, it’s just another great day filled with food!

So here goes my day of eats from Sunday!

I actually slept in (around 8am) for once and then had my morning cup of coffee and blog reading!

Followed by a Fig Smoothie made with Fage Greek Yogurt, Rolled Oats, TJs Frozen Figs, Milk, Chia Seeds and Almond Butter topped with some Kashi Go Lean Cereal for some crunch factor:

After that I did some work and a few hours later had some lunch. I wanted to use up my TJs Greek Yogurt Guacamole so I decided to mix it with tuna:

Tuna, Kale, Cauliflower & Broccoli w/ Parmesan Cheese, and half a Sweet Potato:

Then I headed out to enjoy one of my students’ soccer games in Hoboken! It was such a beautiful day to watch the game!

After that I headed up to my parent’s house and enjoyed an apple for a snack:

Since it was so beautiful out my parents and I decided to get out of the house and randomly decided to take a trip over to my old college Manhattan College! There was a Jewish Deli, Liebman’s Deli that we always enjoyed when I was at school in the Bronx, so we decided to go for an early dinner!

To start they give you coleslaw and pickles:

Then we had the Matzoh Ball Soup:

We shared a Potato Knish and a Potato Pancake:

My mom and I split the Pastrami on Rye:

And then when we got back home we couldn’t resist a stop for ice cream on a gorgeous day:

Holy Cannoli Ice Cream!

Boy was I full after all that! Like I said just because it is a rest day doesn’t mean you should eat less. I love spontaneous food adventures like this one! Such a fun afternoon with my family!

  1. Reminds me a lot of the 2nd Avenue Deli (actually on 1st Ave in Yorkville) that’s just around the corner from where I live! I love the “coleslaw” that’s made with oil and vinegar, such a yummy start to a meal and so crisp and refreshing. And those little chocolate egg cream soda shots they give you to finish…
